The Xperia Z shot appears to be in line with earlier leaks, while the ZL is shaping up to be a slightly more compact variant, potentially squeezing identical hardware into a smaller shell. Both devices are rumored to include 5-inch 1080p LCDs, quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processors with 2 gigs of RAM and Adreno 320 graphics, along with a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the rear -- oddly, the ZL's front-facing camera appears to be positioned on the bottom. Sony has yet to confirm either device's specifications, but with CES just around the corner, we don't have long to wait for either device to become official.

Through a combo of 3D printing, a four-wheel drive chassis and, most importantly, a calculated arrangement of traction magnets, the crew was able to get the cars up and running, and even outfitted with in-dash cams. And, in an appropriate modernist twist, there's an app for all of that -- a custom one designed by Audi that runs on the iPad and lets "drivers" steer via a POV feed and onscreen controls. Unfortunately, the whole shebang's only on display in Toronto for the time being. So, unless you're planning a trip to the Great White North anytime soon, the mini-doc after the break's about as close as you're going to get to the real thing.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) ? Albert Pujols has hit his first regular-season home run since joining the Los Angeles Angels, ending the longest drought of his 12-year career after 33 games and 139 at-bats.
Pujols' two-run shot into the left-field bullpen Sunday came in the fifth inning against Toronto's Drew Hutchison.
Pujols was playing his 28th game for the Angels since leaving St. Louis and signing a $240 million, 10-year contract. The homer, estimated at 390 feet, came in his 111 at-bat for the Angels.
The three-time NL MVP hit seven home runs in spring training. His regular-season drought began last year with the Cardinals.
Pujols' home run was his 446th in the big leagues. The only game he's missed this season was Saturday night's 6-2 victory, when manager Mike Scioscia gave him the day off.
Pujols' longest homer drought prior to this was in 2011, when he came up empty in 27 straight games and 105 at-bats. His longest previous drought at the start of a season was in 2008, when he failed to get one in his first eight games and 27 at-bats. The 32-year-old first baseman averaged 40.5 home runs during his 11 seasons with the Cardinals, including a career-best 49 in 2006. He is the only player in major league history to hit at least 30 homers in each of his first 11 big league seasons.
This was Pujols' first home run at Angel Stadium, the 31st big league ballpark in which he's hit one.

A reporter covering Anders Behring Breivik's trial marvels at the degree of civility Norwegians have shown him, considering the brutality of the July 2011 terror attacks and his lack of remorse.
In the first two weeks of Anders Behring Breivik's trial, the Norwegian man reiterated his conviction that he did the right thing when he killed 77 people on July 22, 2011 ? even if it meant shooting unarmed Labor party youth members as young as 14 trapped on an island or bombing government buildings in Oslo. Those killed were??legitimate political targets,? he said.

International onlookers have been shocked to see how civil the whole trial is proceeding, given the scale and brutality of his crimes ? together they are?the worst national tragedy the country has experienced since World War II ??and Breivik's lack of remorse.?
On April 16, the first day of the 10-week trial, a lineup of prosecutors, forensic psychiatrists, and the legal counsel for the victims all approached Breivik in court to shake his hand. Wearing a suit and neatly trimmed beard, he politely extended his right hand to greet them. Outside, people lined up orderly to enter Oslo District Court. There was not a single sign denouncing him, nor any banners calling for the death penalty.
On the second day of the trial, he was allowed to begin his six-day testimony of what happened in the years leading up to the attack, including his preparation for that day. At the end of the first week he recounted, in chilling detail, of how, after packing a ham and cheese sandwich that morning, he shot and killed 69 people at the Labor party youth summer camp on Ut?ya with a Glock pistol and Ruger semi-automatic rifle.
If this all sounds surreal, that?s because it is.?
It is surreal to see a well-dressed upper class man sit in a court and calmly explain how he killed Norwegians to prevent Norway?s demise. It?s incomprehensible to hear how a man, who supposedly had all the economic means and generous provisions of a cradle-to-grave welfare system, could turn into Norway?s most notorious killer in modern times. And that is part of what scares Norwegians: the thought that he is one of them.?
Despite the atrocity of his crimes and his behavior, Norwegians still want to see him get a fair trial. But that means?he has a legal right to explain himself in court, even if there is a risk that he spreads his propaganda. The trial is also key in determining Breivik's sanity, which is at the crux of this case. The prosecution even defended his right to keep reading from his prepared speech on his first day of testimony in spite of protests from the legal counsel for the victims, who were offended by his one-hour long monologue.?

NEW YORK (AP) ? Absent from the Metropolitan Opera for 15 years, Benjamin Britten's great maritime tragedy "Billy Budd" has made a brief but welcome return in the season's closing days.
If the lead singers were a variable lot at Friday's premiere, the night was still a success because the real stars of the show ? the conductor, the chorus and the set ? all performed magnificently.
That set, designed by William Dudley for the 1978 John Dexter production, is a cutaway depiction against a black background of the H.M.S. Indomitable, a British gunship sailing toward battle with the French in 1797. When the action begins, we're on the main deck, but as scenes change, the ship seamlessly shifts and grows before our eyes, taking us down to the captain's cabin and the sailors' berths and even expanding to reveal seven levels at once.
In adapting Herman Melville's novella, Britten and his librettists ? E.M. Forster and Eric Crozier ? invented a prologue and epilogue in which Captain Vere, now an old man, reflects on the events of the story. In brief, a good-natured young foretopman, Billy Budd, is falsely accused by the master-at-arms, John Claggart, of fomenting mutiny. Tongue-tied, Billy strikes Claggart dead, and Vere ? despite his conviction that Billy is innocent ? feels he has no choice but to see him hanged.
The role of the captain (originally written for Britten's life partner, Peter Pears) was taken in this revival by tenor John Daszak in his Met debut. He sang with a bright, pungent tone and notably crisp diction, though his sound occasionally turned strident on high notes. Dramatically, he was persuasive both as an old man tormented by guilt and as an embattled captain facing an impossible choice.
Baritone Nathan Gunn performed the title role, looking the epitome of Melville's handsome sailor and acting with youthful vigor. He sang sweetly in quiet moments like "Billy in the Darbies," his haunting aria on the eve of execution, but much of the time one longed for a more powerful sound.
Bass James Morris has virtually owned the role of Claggart at the Met, but his voice has lost strength, especially at the low end. He etched a subdued portrait of a corrupt soul who cannot tolerate the presence of unalloyed goodness in the world.
There were many strong contributions from the all-male cast, starting with the chorus, whose role in this opera is vital. The fine trio of officers consisted of baritone Dwayne Croft ? a former Billy himself ? and bass-baritones Kyle Ketelson and the debuting Ryan McKinny. Tenor Keith Jameson was impressive as the Novice, the weak-willed sailor who does Claggart's dirty work.
David Robertson, making a too-infrequent appearance, conducted the Met orchestra in an energetic and moving performance of Britten's score, which is filled with surging melodic themes amid its spiky dissonances.

It wasn?t pretty, but in many ways, Chris Davis had the most remarkable day on a baseball field that I can ever remember.
Starting at DH, Davis fanned in his first five at-bats, hit into a double play into his sixth and grounded out in his seventh before moving to the mound to pitch the 16th and 17th innings and picking up a win in a 9-6 game against the Red Sox.
Davis very nearly took the loss in the 16th, but Marlon Byrd was gunned down at home plate on Mike Aviles? double with two outs. The Red Sox then turned to a position player of their own in the 17th, and Darnell McDonald gave up a three-run homer to Adam Jones, giving the Orioles a 9-6 lead.
After Jones? homer, Davis grounded out, making him 0-for-8 on the day.
The bottom of the 17th started with an infield single off Davis? glove and a Dustin Pedroia walk, but Adrian Gonzalez struck out on three pitches to put a cap on his own 0-for-8 day and McDonald grounded into a double play to end it.
Davis became the first position player to win a game since Philadelphia?s Wilson Valdez got a victory in the 19th inning of a game last May 25. Before that, the last to do it was Rockies catcher Brent Mayne in 2000.
Davis?started his outing showing a 90-91 mph fastball, but he quickly faded into the mid-80s in the 17th. Of course, it still worked out for him. McDonald was sitting in the 81-83 mph range in his inning of work.
Despite having three opportunities, Davis managed to avoid picking up his sixth strikeout. He could have been just the eighth player to reach that mark (dating back to 1918) and the first since Milwaukee?s Geoff Jenkins in 2004.

Enumclaw Golf Course management back on the City Council table
The Enumclaw City Council has spent the past few weeks and meetings wrestling with proposals for the future management of the city-owned golf course.
The council directed city staff to send out a formal request for proposals for management of the 18-hole course in November. The course has lost about $40,000 in each of the past two years, with the deficit made up from the city?s general fund.
King County transferred ownership of the golf course to the city in 2004.
Scott Galbraith, a private manager and operator, ran the course from 2005-09.
According to a 2010 Courier-Herald news article, Galbraith elected not to continue as operator when his contract expired. The city interviewed five applicants but decided each was asking the city to assume too much risk and the city elected to take over the operation of the course.
When the city first took possession of the course from King County it was a profitable venture while the pool was thought to be a financial problem. In 2002 John Wise, the mayor of Enumclaw at that time, reported the course was making about $115,000 and the pool was losing between $150,000 and $180,000, according to a Seattle Times article.
Since at least the Great Recession the opposite has been the case, with rounds dropping for the golf course and the pool carrying its own financial water.
The requests for proposals sent out by the city at the end of 2012 attracted two applicants from private parties.
One proposal came from Bob Gelinas, a resident of Bonney Lake who operates Swiftwater Consulting and Management.
The second was from Peter Erickson, the owner of Performance Physical Therapy located in Enumclaw and Bonney Lake.
Swiftwater
Gelinas described himself in the cover letter of his proposal as an experienced ?golf facility and restaurant manager with hands-on golf course maintenance experience who has led public facilities to success without exception.?
He stated in his proposal he has been a local ?PGA Class ?A? Professional since 1997? and has spent 14 years as head golf pro, facility and restaurant manager.
Gelinas stated during a Feb. 11 City Council meeting he has operated numerous municipal golf facilities including Sumner Meadows, Tapps Island Golf Course and the two Everett municipal golf courses. Gelinas said he improved number of rounds played and revenues at each of the courses.
Gelinas said he expected to pay himself about $18,000 per year and would be at the course five days a week.
Erickson
Erickson said in his cover letter what ?sets me and my plan apart is that I am a 20-year resident of Enumclaw. I grew up on a farm in the Northwest and understand the economic drivers and need for hard work to be successful?. I have a passion for golf, kids, my neighbors and the success of this golf course that you will not find anywhere else.?
Erickson?s proposal stated the course would ?be run by a non-profit organization or hybrid ?for profit/not for profit? organization to? minimize tax liabilities.?
Erickson said he does not expect to draw a salary ?until the golf course is self sustaining and a certain level of capital improvement has been obtained.? He stated he would hire a manager to run pro shop on a daily basis and he would work mornings, evenings and Thursdays.
Nuts and Bolts
Gelinas? proposal stated he will operate the course and pay the city an annual lease payment of 5 percent of greens fees and 5 percent of all golf cart rental revenues.
The Swiftwater proposal described a ?sanding and drainage plan will be developed in the operations budget to improve year after year off season playing conditions.? He also described some capital improvements on holes No. 2, 11 and 18 including draining improvements and new tees.
Gelinas outlined an operation plan for a well run course, with a marketing program.
The Swiftwater proposal guaranteed $50,000 of ?facilities improvements over the five year lease term.?
Erickson proposes to set up an advisory board made up of the president of the Enumclaw men?s and women?s clubs; Enumclaw High golf coach Bob Kilmer; Van Hardy, past president of the Sahalee golf men?s club; and Jim Pike, director of golf operations of Sahalee Golf Course in Sammamish.
Erickson plans to use the Enumclaw men?s and women?s club to ?perform tasks such as tax preparation, legal services, septic pumping, excavation, etc.?
Erickson proposes to address the drainage problems on holes 11 and 18 ?With the advisory board, a decision will be arrived at and a plan agreeable to all as well as fiscally responsible will be implemented.?
He stated a citywide gold tournament would be established to raise money for capital improvements.
He also plans to seek grants from the United States Golf Association.
Erickson also proposed the city ?grant, donated, lease or make available in perpetuity an area sufficient to maintain a driving range perpendicular to 288th Ave. SE and adjacent to SE 452nd St.? The area is commonly known as the bone yard.
At the Feb. 11 meeting Erickson said if the driving range was off the table he would continue to be interested in operating the course.
Erickson?s lease proposal outlines a $1 lease payment for the first year, from year two through five, 2 percent of gross over $400,000, 5 percent over $450,000 and 7 percent over $500,000.
Erickson proposed to make $100,000 of capital improvements during a five-year lease period. He stated the funds include in-kind donations and labor.
Last and Best
Two letters sent to the city concerning the applicants were read by Councilman Glen Jensen during the Feb. 11 council meeting.
Kilmer wrote in support of Erickson.
A email from Dan and Jean Winkel was read representing the Enumclaw men?s and women?s golf club stating some at the previous meeting appeared to believe the clubs were supporting one applicant over another. The letter stated the clubs were not supporting either and expect the council to make a decision based on the proposals and statements provided by Gelinas and Erickson.
City Recommendation
The city staff had previously recommended the Swiftwater proposal.
During a Jan. 28 meeting the council requested that staff seek a ?last and best? offer from the two applicants.
Councilman Sean Krebs said at that meeting (Jan. 28) he had received an email from a community member who was upset believing the city already made a decision picking Gelinas.
Public Works Director Chris Searcy said the city does not choose an applicant but provides a recommendation for the council. Only the council can choose to approve a proposal to operate the golf course.
Councilman Mike Ennis at the Feb. 11 meeting asked City Administrator Mike Thomas if the city?s recommendation was the same following the presentation to the council by the Gelinas and Erickson.
Thomas said the city continued to recommend Gelinas.
The members did not come to a decision at the meeting. Krebs said he wanted to think about it and hear from the community. Jensen said he also wanted more time to consider the issues.
Councilman Darrell Dickson said he was supporting Erickson, but suggested a recommendation could be requested from the Parks Board.
Councilman Chance La Fleur said he would still like to consider the option of the city continuing to operate the course.

White House must respond to questions about cellphone unlock law ...
When the White House first launched its petition website, the goal was to create a direct medium of communication between government and the people. Petitions made a lot of sense as it was a great way to gauge which issues are most important to people. The White House promised to respond to any petition that reached a certain threshold before a certain amount of time.
The original threshold was set at 30,000 signatures, but because it was so easy for pranksters to get the White House to respond to a request to build a death star, the threshold was tweaked to 100,000. That made it more difficult to get discussion on real issues going, but we understand the need.
That said, the one petition us phone lovers really care about ? the one to make the unlocking of cell phones legal again ? reached the 100,000 mark just before the cut-off date.?The Librarian of Congress put into effect a rule that effectively banned the act of unlocking your phone without carrier consent. Most scoffed at the law and the idea that the government could scare citizens away using court fines and possible prosecution, but regardless of how you feel about the ridiculous nature of the enforcement or the law itself most would still rather it be done away with.
With this milestone reached, an official from the White House must respond to the request laid out in the original petition. That doesn?t necessarily mean the White House has to comply with the request, but we will at least get a nice, thoughtful response. And note that even if the White House officials agree with the movement, it?s not entirely up to them whether or not the law stays, goes, or is changed.
The best case scenario would be to see the new law rescinded by the Librarian of Congress at the request of the Obama administration. In other words, don?t get your hopes up just yet ? just be happy that we?ll even be able to get a real, meaningful response at all. We?ll keep our eye out for the update from the White House in the weeks to come.

UN rejects damage claim for Haiti cholera victims
UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? The United Nations rejected a claim for damages on behalf of more than 5,000 Haitian cholera victims and their families on Thursday, citing diplomatic immunity.
The claim was filed in November 2011 by the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti, a Boston-based human rights group that contended the U.N. and its peacekeeping force are liable for hundreds of millions of dollars for failing to adequately screen peacekeeping soldiers.
It cited studies suggesting that the disease was inadvertently brought to Haiti by a U.N. battalion from Nepal, where cholera is endemic. A local contractor failed to properly sanitize the waste of a U.N. base, and the bacteria leaked into a tributary of one of Haiti's biggest rivers, according to one study by a U.N.-appointed panel.
Cholera has sickened nearly 500,000 people and killed over 7,750 people since the outbreak began in October 2010, according to the Haitian government. About half the people in the country of 10 million have no bathroom at all and sanitation access is the worst in the Western Hemisphere.
U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said the United Nations informed representatives of the claimant of the U.N. rejection on Thursday.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also called Haitian President Michel Martelly to inform him of the decision "and to reiterate the commitment of the United Nations to the elimination of cholera in Haiti," Nesirky said.
Brian Concannon, the institute's director, said that after 15 months, the rejection was a single sentence, based on the world organization's immunity, which said the claims are "not receivable" because they concern "a review of political and policy matters."
"Our case is about the U.N. dumping contaminated sewage in Haiti's waters that has caused thousands of deaths," he said. "Under this definition, any harm that the U.N. does to anybody would be a matter of policy."
Concannon told The Associated Press: "We're disappointed because the U.N. is passing up a chance to stop cholera's killing, and to show leadership in promoting the rule of law."
Mario Joseph, lead attorney for the victims, added: "It is disgraceful that the U.N. will not even consider compensating the thousands of families who have lost their children, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters due to the UN's wrongdoing."
Concannon, a co-counsel for the victims, said the institute's next step will be to go to a national court to seek compensation for the victims, "but we haven't decided which one yet," possibly in Haiti, the United States or Europe.
The institute was seeking a minimum of $100,000 for each bereaved family and $50,000 for each cholera survivor.
When the compensation claim was filed with the secretary-general and the claims unit for the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti in 2011, Concannon said he hoped the U.N. peacekeeping force would create a lifesaving program that would provide sanitation, potable water and medical treatment. He also said he wanted a public apology for the victims.
In December, Ban announced a $2.27 billion initiative to help eradicate cholera in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which share the island of Hispaniola, and vowed to work aggressively to secure donations for the ambitious but still mostly unfunded 10-year plan.
Nesirky said Thursday that the secretary-general "again expresses his profound sympathy for the terrible suffering caused by the cholera epidemic, and calls on all partners in Haiti and the international community to work together to ensure better health and a better future for the people of Haiti."

It was a glaring non sequitur following tweets such as "Republicans must be careful with immigration?don?t give our country away," and "Wow, Macy's numbers just in-Trump is doing better than ever ? thanks for your great support!"
"Yes, obviously the account has been hacked and we are looking for the perpetrator," Rhona Graff, senior vice president, assistant to the president of the Trump Organization, told NBC News via email.
This confirmation was quickly echoed by Trump himself, in a tweet that read, "My Twitter has been seriously hacked ? and we are looking for the perpetrators."
Cut off after a single rogue tweet, the Trump Twitter anomaly was far shorter than the Burger King and Jeep takeovers earlier this week. On Monday, Burger King's Twitter account was hacked and renamed McDonalds, and over the course of a hour, sent out 53 tweets (and garnered 73,421 retweets) making light of the situation. The Tuesday attack on Jeep's Twitter account ? which included the erroneous announcement that the car maker had been taken over by Cadillac ? ceased after just 10 minutes and 13 tweets.
Soon after @Jeep regained control, the Twitter accounts of MTV and BET appeared to be compromised. The MTV account tweeted claims the network had been taken over by BET, and BET tweeted it was now owned by MTV. This turned out to be a publicity stunt by the networks, both owned by Viacom. As NBC News reported on Tuesday, the account of a PR representative warned of the hack ahead of time on Twitter and then both MTV and BET copped to the scheme after the "hack."
NBC News has asked the Trump Organization how Trump was able to regain control of his Twitter account so quickly, and will update this story if we receive a response.

So, how'd they do that? Through a combo of 3D printing, a four-wheel drive chassis and, most importantly, a calculated arrangement of traction magnets, the crew was able to get the cars up and running, and even outfitted with in-dash cams. And, in an appropriate modernist twist, there's an app for all of that -- a custom one designed by Audi that runs on the iPad and lets "drivers" steer via a POV feed and onscreen controls. Unfortunately, the whole shebang's only on display in Toronto for the time being. So, unless you're planning a trip to the Great White North anytime soon, the mini-doc after the break's about as close as you're going to get to the real thing.

The clip shows the Z10 taking SMS dictation, calling contacts, and playing music -- and it appears to take all those verbal German commands in stride, though we can't say how well it'll deal with less literal languages. We'll let you watch the video after the break to draw your own conclusions, but it's safe to say it looks like BB10 has its answer for Siri and Google Now.
