Tronsmart Prometheus Is An Android-powered Set-Top Box For $99

To contact us Click HERE

Set-top boxes have been, for the most part, devices cable companies have stuck into our living rooms in order for us to access their content without a lot of bells and whistles to go along with. Sure, we can use our set-top boxes as a DVR, watch shows and movies on-demand and even be told the time when it’s off, but our set-top boxes need a little more pizazz. And maybe a little more Android, too.
The Tronsmart Prometheus is an Android-powered media player that resembles the ship that was featured in the film, Prometheus and comes with a ton of bells and whistles that will put your current set-top box to shame. The Prometheus runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor that features 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal flash storage and an SD card slot. It also has Wi-Fi, an Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI and composite output.
Tronsmart’s Promethus will set you back $99, which is an absolute steal when you consider just how sleek the device looks as well as the fact that it runs Android. This is one set-top box we can’t help but geek over just a little bit.

You may not have heard of Denmark-based ECOmove but their QBEAK III electric car is actually its third prototype already and is look set to roll into the market sometime in 2014. Apart from performance rides, there’s a little known fact that we also have a penchant for adorable cars and the QBEAK III’s super cute form did managed to capture our hearts. Measuring a compact 3-meter (9.8-foot) long, the III features an interior that is configurable to ferry from one up to six individuals and it sports removable battery pack (called energy modules) with up to six of such modules can be installed in one car, thereby offering up to 300 km (186 miles) of range. The QBEAK III employs in-wheel motors to save on space and maintenance – the motors form part of its electric driveline including brakes and suspension. Two electric motors, each rated at 35.4 kW, drives this sub 500 kilograms cuties to a modest top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). It has sliding doors in place of traditional swing doors for access, one on each sides and it sits on a unique platform where the energy modules form the floor pan. Another features unique to this car (that’s if you exclude McLaren F1) is the driver position: it is located in the middle of the car, thus enabling the driver to get in and out with ease from either side. There’s no word on its pricing or availability as of now for this urban people mover.

iPhone 5S Will Have Five Different Color Options And Two Display Sizes [Rumor]

To contact us Click HERE

According to Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White, Apple’s long-rumored iPhone 5S will be entirely different from its predecessors. In a note to investors on Wednesday, White writes, “Our checks indicate that the next iPhone will have more choices for customers. This entails an expansion in both the color patterns and screen sizes with the next iPhone (i.e., likely called the iPhone 5S) that we currently believe will be launched in May/June with certain supply production starting in March/April.”
White claims that the next iPhone, most likely named iPhone 5S will arrive in five different colors – blue, yellow, pink, white and silver, and black and slate. The analyst also believes that the rumored iDevice will be available in two different screen sizes. “Although Apple offers a 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5 and a 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, the company has never offered multiple screen sizes for a single model. We believe this is about to change with the next iPhone offering different screen sizes that we believe will allow Apple to better bifurcate the market and expand its reach.”

MSI Slidebook S20 Ultrabook

For Windows users who are still deliberating between a tablet and a laptop, we guess that momentous decision isn’t really quite hard to make – especially not when a hybrid or convertible is starting to be a commonplace in Windows 8 portables. One such example is the MSI Slidebook S20 Ultrabook. Despite its namesake, it is actually both a touchscreen tablet and feather weight ultrabook. Powered by 1.7GHz Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor, the S20 display is of a 11.6-inch 1080p high definition LED backlit display with 10-point multitouch IPS panel that boasts over 350 lumens of brightness. Other noteworthy features include 4GB of RAM (upgradeable up to 8GB), integrated Intel HD4000 graphics, up to 128GB mSATA SSD with an additional space for a 2.5-inch HDD if more storage is required, HD front-facing camera, high-fidelity speakers with THX TruStudio Pro sound, a 3-cell, 3,800 mAh battery, and the usual WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, plus a bunch of I/Os including a card reader, mini HDMI, USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 technology, Ethernet port, WiFi and audio output jack. And oh, it has accelerometer built-in too. all told, the MSI Slidebook S20 Ultrabook weighs in at just 1.16kg (with SSD) (2.6 pounds). Its $1,099 sticker might put it on the high side for a Windows laptop but technically, you are actually paying one price for two devices. It is definitely not a tablet per say but with its ability to ‘transform’ into a slate-like device (by sliding the keyboard away), it definitely has an edge when you need a quick use while on the road.

Samsung Series 7 Touch Monitor

Why should your Windows 8 touch functionality restricted to just your laptop or All-in-One? They really shouldn’t. Which is why Samsung created the Samsung Series 7 Touch Monitor (SC770). The SC770 Touch is the Korean electronics giant’s first foray into multi-touch display made specifically for Windows 8 and it features a 24-inch touch panel with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and supports up to 10 points of multi-touch. Other key features include 5ms grey-to-grey (GTG) response time, 5000:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits brightness, a pair of 3W speakers, integrated USB hub, HDMI out and like most good monitor, it offers a flexible, ergonomic stand that is user-adjustable and offers 60-degree tilt for comfortable use of the touch display. Along with those specs is Sammy’s trademark beautiful aesthetic that extends to its ultra-thin bezel. On the similar news, a non-touch variant, the SC750, was also announced. The SC750 sports a large 27-inch panel with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and features 300 nits of brightness, 5,000:1 contrast ratio, 16.7 millions colors, 5ms GTG response time, along with HDMI connectivity. Both models are expected to roll into the market in the first quarter this year but pricing is still a mystery. However, you can catch the duo in person at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, happening from the January 8 to 11 (booth #12004).

Sony Xperia Z 'Yuga' and ZL 'Odin' make a press shot debut on New Year's Day

Sony Xperia Z 'Yuga' and ZL 'Odin'Are you ready to welcome in 2013? It's sure to be another hot year for handsets, and if this pair of leaked Xperia smartphones is any indication, Sony is likely to be off to a solid start come CES. The svelte Xperia Z "Yuga" and slightly sleeker ZL "Odin" have made a premature debut on the Japanese tech giant's site, with a pair of straight-on press shots appearing overnight.
The Xperia Z shot appears to be in line with earlier leaks, while the ZL is shaping up to be a slightly more compact variant, potentially squeezing identical hardware into a smaller shell. Both devices are rumored to include 5-inch 1080p LCDs, quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processors with 2 gigs of RAM and Adreno 320 graphics, along with a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the rear -- oddly, the ZL's front-facing camera appears to be positioned on the bottom. Sony has yet to confirm either device's specifications, but with CES just around the corner, we don't have long to wait for either device to become official.

Huawei D2, Mate and W1 reportedly pose for press images

Huawei D2, Mate and W1 reportedly pose for press imagesHuawei has already left little doubt as to what we'll see from its smartphone line at CES. If official teasers aren't enough, however, well-known phone tipster @evleaks has given Unwired View what's purported to be press images for the three key introductions. The Ascend W1 Windows Phone (at left) looks much like we've seen from live shots, just with newer black and pink hues; the Ascend D2 (right) isn't quite so rainbow-like, but supports what's been claimed of the 5-inch phone's aesthetic and custom interface.
A shot for the Ascend Mate (after the break), despite representing the company's stand-out device, is the least surprising given that executive Richard Yu showed customers the real thing just days ago. We'd still give these images a long look -- while there's chances for inaccuracies or surprises, they may be the best glimpses of Huawei's early 2013 lineup before we see it first-hand.

Samsung Smart Tango Corner Clean robotic vacuum hits Flickr ahead of CES launch

Samsung Smart Tango Corner Clean robotic vacuum appears on Flickr ahead of CES launchThere's no doubt that Samsung's holding its juiciest bits for the stage in Vegas, but the company has been letting a few items slip on by, with an update to its robotic vacuum line representing the latest pre-CES tease. The Smart Tango Corner Clean maintains a traditional circular design, but includes the "world's very first pop-out brush," which enables the bot to whip debris out of corners and otherwise inaccessible spots along its mapped-out path. On the navigation front, the new cleaner appears to include Samsung's camera-equipped Visionary Mapping System, with a front-mounted lens.
There's also a built-in LCD for programming and error code readouts, along with a handful of controls on the top and a standard removable dust bin in the rear. There's no hint of pricing or availability -- or even a model number to speak of -- but if you're in the market for an autonomous vac, you might as well hold out on your purchase for one more week.

LG 55inch OLED TV available for preorder in Korea this week, ready to ship next monthIf you spent the entirety of 2012 with 11 million won ($10,000 US) in your savings account and begging LG to take it, we'd wager that you were hoping that the Korean manufacturer's 55-inch WRGB OLED HDTV -- announced at last year's CES -- would make its way to your doorstep in a reasonable amount of time. Whether or not you feel that one revolution of the Earth around the Sun can be called reasonable, LG will begin taking pre-orders for the breathtaking screen in Korea on Thursday (January 3rd) and will ship the first batch to early adopters next month.
There's still no word on when we can expect to see one in other parts of the world, but this -- as well as its stamp of approval by the FCC -- is a good sign that the wait may soon be over. Check out the full press release after the break.LG BEGINS ROLLOUT OF EAGERLY ANTICIPATED OLED TVLG Ushers in New Year as First Company to Launch Sales of OLED TVSEOUL, Jan. 2, 2013 -– LG Electronics (LG) announced today that it will begin accepting pre-orders for its eagerly-awaited 55-inch class (54.6-inch diagonal) WRGB OLED TV (Model 55EM9700) in South Korea this month with deliveries scheduled to begin next month.Other markets where the revolutionary LG OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV will be available will be announced over the next several weeks along with their respective prices. The announcement comes just days before the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where an early version of the TV last year was awarded "Best of Show."More than 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea will begin accepting orders from consumers for KRW 11 million (approximately US $10,000) TVs starting Jan. 3 with delivery to commence the first week of February. As the first and only company to announce availability of the next-generation TV technology, LG is prepared to ramp up quickly to take the lead in the OLED segment that is expected to grow to 7.2 million units by 2016, according to Display Search."We are extremely pleased to be able to make this announcement at the start of the new year because we believe that OLED will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment," said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG's Home Entertainment Company. "Not since color TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public's reaction was 'wow!' but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they're left speechless. That's a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology."Only 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) thin and weighing less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), LG's OLED TVs produce astoundingly vivid and realistic pictures thanks to its superior WRGB technology. LG's unique Four-Color Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional red, blue, green setup to create the perfect color output. LG's exclusive Color Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement, resulting in images that are more vibrant and natural than anything seen before. The 55-inch OLED TV also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.Even before its launch, LG's OLED TV was turning heads all over the world. In addition to being named Best of Show at CES 2012, the influential Industrial Designers Society of America recognized the TV with a coveted IDEA Award. Meanwhile, LGreceivedthe European Display Achievement 2012-2013 Award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). And to cap it off, LG's OLED received Korea's Good Design President Award in October.

Huawei Ascend D2 reportedly spied while switched on, teases an upscale look

Huawei Ascend D2 reportedly spied while switched on, teases an upscale lookHuawei has already confirmed that we're going to see its extra-large Ascend D2 at CES, but that doesn't mean a sneak peek is unwelcome. ITHome is more than willing to sate our curiosity with a set of photos that purportedly show a fully functional version of the 5-inch smartphone. In a sense, we know what to expect from the software: the D2 appears to be using the same customized Android layer as the even larger Ascend Mate, just without that fifth column of icons.
The shots do, however, suggest that Huawei is going for a design as premium-looking on the outside as it is high-powered on the inside. Not much else is known, but we'll likely understand Huawei's fuller ambitions in Las Vegas next month.Update: Our brethren over at Engadget Chinese also received the same batch of photos, and they sure look legit.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) ? Albert Pujols has hit his first regular-season home run since joining the Los Angeles Angels, ending the longest drought of his 12-year career after 33 games and 139 at-bats.

Pujols' two-run shot into the left-field bullpen Sunday came in the fifth inning against Toronto's Drew Hutchison.

Pujols was playing his 28th game for the Angels since leaving St. Louis and signing a $240 million, 10-year contract. The homer, estimated at 390 feet, came in his 111 at-bat for the Angels.

The three-time NL MVP hit seven home runs in spring training. His regular-season drought began last year with the Cardinals.

Pujols' home run was his 446th in the big leagues. The only game he's missed this season was Saturday night's 6-2 victory, when manager Mike Scioscia gave him the day off.

Pujols' longest homer drought prior to this was in 2011, when he came up empty in 27 straight games and 105 at-bats. His longest previous drought at the start of a season was in 2008, when he failed to get one in his first eight games and 27 at-bats. The 32-year-old first baseman averaged 40.5 home runs during his 11 seasons with the Cardinals, including a career-best 49 in 2006. He is the only player in major league history to hit at least 30 homers in each of his first 11 big league seasons.

This was Pujols' first home run at Angel Stadium, the 31st big league ballpark in which he's hit one.

Faced with Breivik's unflinching account, Norway surprises world with its civility

To contact us Click HERE

A reporter covering Anders Behring Breivik's trial marvels at the degree of civility Norwegians have shown him, considering the brutality of the July 2011 terror attacks and his lack of remorse.

In the first two weeks of Anders Behring Breivik's trial, the Norwegian man reiterated his conviction that he did the right thing when he killed 77 people on July 22, 2011 ? even if it meant shooting unarmed Labor party youth members as young as 14 trapped on an island or bombing government buildings in Oslo. Those killed were??legitimate political targets,? he said.

The attacks were ?gruesome but necessary" for preventing Labor from continuing to undermine Norwegian society with its lenient immigration policies, Mr. Breivik said. The party had betrayed the country by promoting the Islamic colonization of Norway and ipso facto the ethnic cleansing of indigenous Norwegians. He would do it all again, he said.?

International onlookers have been shocked to see how civil the whole trial is proceeding, given the scale and brutality of his crimes ? together they are?the worst national tragedy the country has experienced since World War II ??and Breivik's lack of remorse.?

On April 16, the first day of the 10-week trial, a lineup of prosecutors, forensic psychiatrists, and the legal counsel for the victims all approached Breivik in court to shake his hand. Wearing a suit and neatly trimmed beard, he politely extended his right hand to greet them. Outside, people lined up orderly to enter Oslo District Court. There was not a single sign denouncing him, nor any banners calling for the death penalty.

On the second day of the trial, he was allowed to begin his six-day testimony of what happened in the years leading up to the attack, including his preparation for that day. At the end of the first week he recounted, in chilling detail, of how, after packing a ham and cheese sandwich that morning, he shot and killed 69 people at the Labor party youth summer camp on Ut?ya with a Glock pistol and Ruger semi-automatic rifle.

If this all sounds surreal, that?s because it is.?

It is surreal to see a well-dressed upper class man sit in a court and calmly explain how he killed Norwegians to prevent Norway?s demise. It?s incomprehensible to hear how a man, who supposedly had all the economic means and generous provisions of a cradle-to-grave welfare system, could turn into Norway?s most notorious killer in modern times. And that is part of what scares Norwegians: the thought that he is one of them.?

Despite the atrocity of his crimes and his behavior, Norwegians still want to see him get a fair trial. But that means?he has a legal right to explain himself in court, even if there is a risk that he spreads his propaganda. The trial is also key in determining Breivik's sanity, which is at the crux of this case. The prosecution even defended his right to keep reading from his prepared speech on his first day of testimony in spite of protests from the legal counsel for the victims, who were offended by his one-hour long monologue.?

Rare Met revival of Britten's shipboard opera

To contact us Click HERE

NEW YORK (AP) ? Absent from the Metropolitan Opera for 15 years, Benjamin Britten's great maritime tragedy "Billy Budd" has made a brief but welcome return in the season's closing days.

If the lead singers were a variable lot at Friday's premiere, the night was still a success because the real stars of the show ? the conductor, the chorus and the set ? all performed magnificently.

That set, designed by William Dudley for the 1978 John Dexter production, is a cutaway depiction against a black background of the H.M.S. Indomitable, a British gunship sailing toward battle with the French in 1797. When the action begins, we're on the main deck, but as scenes change, the ship seamlessly shifts and grows before our eyes, taking us down to the captain's cabin and the sailors' berths and even expanding to reveal seven levels at once.

In adapting Herman Melville's novella, Britten and his librettists ? E.M. Forster and Eric Crozier ? invented a prologue and epilogue in which Captain Vere, now an old man, reflects on the events of the story. In brief, a good-natured young foretopman, Billy Budd, is falsely accused by the master-at-arms, John Claggart, of fomenting mutiny. Tongue-tied, Billy strikes Claggart dead, and Vere ? despite his conviction that Billy is innocent ? feels he has no choice but to see him hanged.

The role of the captain (originally written for Britten's life partner, Peter Pears) was taken in this revival by tenor John Daszak in his Met debut. He sang with a bright, pungent tone and notably crisp diction, though his sound occasionally turned strident on high notes. Dramatically, he was persuasive both as an old man tormented by guilt and as an embattled captain facing an impossible choice.

Baritone Nathan Gunn performed the title role, looking the epitome of Melville's handsome sailor and acting with youthful vigor. He sang sweetly in quiet moments like "Billy in the Darbies," his haunting aria on the eve of execution, but much of the time one longed for a more powerful sound.

Bass James Morris has virtually owned the role of Claggart at the Met, but his voice has lost strength, especially at the low end. He etched a subdued portrait of a corrupt soul who cannot tolerate the presence of unalloyed goodness in the world.

There were many strong contributions from the all-male cast, starting with the chorus, whose role in this opera is vital. The fine trio of officers consisted of baritone Dwayne Croft ? a former Billy himself ? and bass-baritones Kyle Ketelson and the debuting Ryan McKinny. Tenor Keith Jameson was impressive as the Novice, the weak-willed sailor who does Claggart's dirty work.

David Robertson, making a too-infrequent appearance, conducted the Met orchestra in an energetic and moving performance of Britten's score, which is filled with surging melodic themes amid its spiky dissonances.

HBT: O's 1B takes mound, tops Red Sox in 17

To contact us Click HERE

It wasn?t pretty, but in many ways, Chris Davis had the most remarkable day on a baseball field that I can ever remember.

Starting at DH, Davis fanned in his first five at-bats, hit into a double play into his sixth and grounded out in his seventh before moving to the mound to pitch the 16th and 17th innings and picking up a win in a 9-6 game against the Red Sox.

Davis very nearly took the loss in the 16th, but Marlon Byrd was gunned down at home plate on Mike Aviles? double with two outs. The Red Sox then turned to a position player of their own in the 17th, and Darnell McDonald gave up a three-run homer to Adam Jones, giving the Orioles a 9-6 lead.

After Jones? homer, Davis grounded out, making him 0-for-8 on the day.

The bottom of the 17th started with an infield single off Davis? glove and a Dustin Pedroia walk, but Adrian Gonzalez struck out on three pitches to put a cap on his own 0-for-8 day and McDonald grounded into a double play to end it.

Davis became the first position player to win a game since Philadelphia?s Wilson Valdez got a victory in the 19th inning of a game last May 25. Before that, the last to do it was Rockies catcher Brent Mayne in 2000.

Davis?started his outing showing a 90-91 mph fastball, but he quickly faded into the mid-80s in the 17th. Of course, it still worked out for him. McDonald was sitting in the 81-83 mph range in his inning of work.

Despite having three opportunities, Davis managed to avoid picking up his sixth strikeout. He could have been just the eighth player to reach that mark (dating back to 1918) and the first since Milwaukee?s Geoff Jenkins in 2004.
